Education

We believe that the National Government should have no authority financing or setting standards in Public Education. The Department of Education should be disbanded, and the States should take control. The key result of such action is Choice; choice to the State, choice to the local school, and choice to the parents. The States can choose whatever type of funding they would like, whether it is public, private or a combination of the two. The States and local districts can choose to have vouchers with any type of funding they desire. With parents being able to have choices in their child’s education, schools will be forced to provide the best. Private industry can set a standard to which schools are judged, not the national government. Competition emerges among schools, those with good models prosper while those with poor models change or fail. States will make decisions on attendance, teacher accountability, student accountability, and parental accountability, etc.

Regarding higher education, we maintain that the national government should not play any role in the funding, regulation, oversight or any other aspect of state institutions; the states alone should be granted decision-making powers. Upon complete removal of national influence, the voters will decide upon the policies for the public universities and colleges of their respective states.
